Arlene Weinstock, CPSA, CPX

Arlene Weinstock is an award winning nationally recognized artist working in colored pencil and mixed media. She teaches colored pencil techniques to adults. Weinstock holds Signature Status, Experimental Signature, and Five Year Merit recognition in the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA).  Her work has been juried into local and national art shows. Her work has been published - “February” is in The Best of Colored Pencil 4, and "January Dusk" is in CPSA Signature Showcase.

about my work

Light allows us to see; yet too much light washes away the detail just as shadow and darkness obscure it. Fog and rain diffuse light. My work celebrates the visual ambiguity caused by these atmospheric conditions. My images draw the viewer into the picture by inviting interpretation of what is seen. My technique adds to the ambiguity.

I create a rich textured surface to optically mix color. The surface adds vibrancy to the viewing experience. When standing close to my work, the viewer sees a complex abstract of overlapping textures made up of various marks and scribbles of color. As the viewer steps back from the surface, a landscape emerges.

My landscapes are compositions deesigned as space for personal reflection. The transitions between light and dark and the complexity of the mid-tones are a metaphor for the journey from emptiness to possibility.
