about my work

Too much light, the lack of light, and wet weather conditions like fog or rain obscure detail.  Abstraction occurs.  An otherwise mundane scene becomes dramatic or mysterious.  Compositional elements come from the scene but the resulting image is not of any real place.

I approach colored pencil in a loose painterly way using layers of color and overlapping textures to create a rich surface.  I sometimes include watercolor, ink or graphite in my work.  When you stand close to one of my images, you see lots of texture, then, as you step back, the forms emerge - like seeing through a thick fog.   My images are abstract and representational.

My recent work represents the journey from darkness and pain to hope and renewal. It is a long road from the dark narrow places within to the light. My landscape images let you move through low light, mist or unusually harsh light to quite spaces.

Enter one of my landscapes.  The space is a starting point to lose yourself or meditate.  Take a vacation from your everyday.  The landscape changes with time. Bring your own ideas and experiences to these places and go where you want.  Leave your present state of being and go someplace of your own mystery and perhaps calm.  Take a break from the here and now and enter the eternal of your own mind through the landscape space I've created for you.
